The Quest Begins

Welcome to Mommy Librarian! I wanted to call this blog something snazzy like 52 books in 52 weeks or the even jazzier book goals but then I started to snooze myself. Anyways, here I am.

I am indeed a librarian but I am first a mommy. As a mommy I find myself with little time for enjoyment. Things like going to Barnes and Noble and Half Price books are less and less likely right now with a sqirmy toddler. This is a shame since I love reading and make my living off of reading and other people wanting/needing to read. Most librarians actually don't get to read books all day -- oh we still read, but it is usually something professional like a journal, book review or quick research for a patron. After a long day of quick reads I find myself not in the mood to read more.

Lately I find myself bored. Bored with book reviews and news articles. Bored with TV. Just mentally bored. The kind of bored that comes from not reading a good book in a long time. Those of you who read know what I am talking about.

Now as a librarian and as a mother who wants her child to be well rounded I have to break this cycle. So I have a plan, a goal if you will. I am going to read one book a week for the next 52 weeks beginning Sunday April 25, 2010. I will journal my reviews here and challenge others to join me on my quest.

Be advised, I will be reading books that I find interesting. I may not like the book when I am done but I was interested in it at some point. Some of you will disagree with my choices and my opinions. That is fine. Some of you may refuse to read what I read and that is fine too. Read what you want to read. Let everyone know why you did or did not like it. The point it to read. Expand your mind. Challenge yourself! Lets see what we discover!
